Isle of the Dead tours operating again

18/10/2011

Tours to the Isle of the Dead at the Port Arthur Historic Site are operating again.

The popular island tour, which is accessed via ferry from the World Heritage-listed convict site, had been unavailable for about three months while a new jetty was constructed.

Works were delayed by bad weather meaning the closure was longer than had been anticipated.

The Isle of the Dead is located in the harbour off Port Arthur. Between 1833 and 1877, around one thousand burials took place there. It is an optional tour, requiring an additional ticket.

Tickets can be purchased as part of an Experience Pass either online, at our Visitor Centre or from onboard the ferry. The tour, including ferry transfers, lasts approximately one hour.
