Five years afloat and one million passengers

07/03/2007

MV Marana, the 42 metre cruising catamaran that takes visitors to Port Arthur on their cruise around the harbour, celebrates five years on the run this Friday, 9 March. In that time the vessel has carried more than one million passengers on what, for many, is one of the most memorable components of their visit to the Historic Site. The Marana is one of a fleet of vessels operated by Navigators, and in the past two years, the harbour cruise has become a year-round feature of the Port Arthur experience. One of the most spectacular ways to visit Port Arthur is to sail down aboard the Marana from Hobart, as did all people arriving at Port Arthur prior to the construction of the road in the early twentieth century, then spending the day on site. The Port Arthur tour cruise is offered on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing Hobart at 8am, from October to May. The Marana also offers a stunning Tasman Island Wilderness Cruise, leaving from Port Arthur on Monday and Thursday mornings, again between October and May. For more on the Marana’s Port Arthur cruises, visit the Navigators web site web site.
