Connecting community and convict sites
Thank you to all who visited Port Arthur and the other Tasmanian World Heritage Convict Sites to celebrate Australian Heritage Week and share your stories of your connections to those sites.
We were able to record details about your recollections or artefacts and every contribution will increase our knowledge and understanding of our history and of the important place these sites hold in the hearts and minds of our community members.
We plan to gather the stories and information recieved and produce a publication showcasing some of the stories that have come to light. Please check back to this page for further details.
There were "Collecting Memories" events at each of the Tasmanian National Heritage Sites which are also a part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property - Port Arthur, Cascades Female Factory, Darlington Probation Station, Woolmers Estate and Brickendon Estate. For full details of these activities, please download the handbill below.
Collecting Memories was hosted by Tasmania’s six convict sites that form part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage property.
This event is to celebrate our community connections to these significant places. This project is
funded through the National Heritage List Sites Promotional Program of the Department of
Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
