As part of the 2014 Tasmanian Heritage Festival, the Port Arthur Historic Site will be hosting a day of activities to celebrate its botanic heritage on Sunday May 4.

A related exhibition will be on display in the Asylum Hall from May 1-31.

Botanica group art exhibition - Asylum Hall daily 1-31 May

completed works of botanic art will be on display from the Botanica group of artists studying under Lauren Black, a leading figure in botanical art in Australia.

Meet the artists - Asylum Hall, Sunday 4 May 11am – 4pm

A chance to meet the artists from the Botanica group who will share their research about the plants and trees at Port Arthur, which are the inspiration behind their current art project.

Launch - Trentham orchard 11am – 3pm

Join us for the launch of the partnership between the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority and the Free Settlers Historical Plant Nursery, who are propagating heritage plants, some that are perhaps on the brink of extinction, to make them available to Tasmanian gardeners.

Guided tour

A guided tour through Port Arthurs gardens will occur between 12:00 – 1:30, and afternoon tea using produce from around the grounds will be available in the Asylum cafe.

Locations will be signposted from the Visitor Centre. Access to these events is included in the cost of site entry (additional cost applies for afternoon tea).
